The mission of the USOC is to support United States Olympic and Paralympic athletes in achieving sustained competitive excellence and preserve the Olympic ideals, and thereby inspire all Americans.
In January 2007, the United States Olympic Committee launched a state-by-state grass roots campaign to ask one million Americans to help the U.S. Team prepare for the greatest challenge it has ever faced in Olympic competition. The campaign aims to raise $50 million in private contributions – more than twice the amount it has ever raised for an Olympic Games.
