The vision of the PAZ-Holandesa Tony Molleapaza Rojas' Children Disability Hospital is to facilitate that disabled children in Peru, regardless of their socio-economic status, have access to highquality, comprehensive and equitable care and rehabilitation. The PAZ-Holandesa Tony Molleapaza Rojas' Children Disability Hospital aims to provide a model of an urban hospital in Peru that is accessible to rich and poor. PAZ-Holandesa develops appropriate, accessible and sustainable health care systems and also trains management and other staff for programs that share the same aims.
The PAZ-Holandesa foundation has been active in Peru since 2000. The foundation focuses on the treatment, rehabilitation and re-integration of children with disabilities. PAZ-Holandesa started with organizing operation projects in Cuzco, Lima and Arequipa.
A children’s policlinic was opened in 2001 in Arequipa (second city of Peru) to offer a full treatment and rehabilitation. The continue presence of PAZ- Holandesa services made that we receive patients from the departments: Arequipa, Moquega, Ica, Cuzco, Puno, Madre de Dios and Ayachuco. This clinic has a staff of 18 professionals currently. Given the track record and amounts of children treated, founding a hospital is a logical step in the development of the services of PAZHolandesa. The hospital will allow both larger numbers of children to be treated, further improvement in post-surgery follow-up and auto-financing of the foundation
through redistribution of paid services to middle and upper class patients to poor patients who will be treated free of charge. In august 2005 As.PAZ-Holandesa in Arequipa received in use for 99 years 6000 m2. of the Council of Paucarpata (District of Arequipa).
Detailed description of activities
Overview:
? Operation projects at locations in the Peruvian cities of Arequipa, Lima and Cuzco. The main emphasis here lies in cleft palate operations (harelips), burn mark operations, hydrocephalus (waterhead) operations and spina bifida operations (opening in the spine). A reason for performing these operations, is that the above described diseases occur on a large scale but, as of yet, are or can hardly be treated by Peru’s own health care system and this is mainly due to the lack of financial resources.
? Coordinating and offering after care projects (like speech classes, psychological treatments, primary dental care);
? Giving medical training to local staff (like echo demonstrations, nursing training, operation techniques);
? Collecting and donating of equipment and basic medical materials as also children’s toys and food for local hospitals and orphanages;
? Setting up and using the Paz-Holandesa children’s policlinic,
? Setting up and using a travel clinic in Arequipa,
? Collaboration with Erasmus MC Rotterdam, Stichting Stola Rotterdam, Hospital Goyeneche in Arequipa, the Ministery of Health of Peru, IFHSB (Int. Federation for Hydrocephalus and Spina Bifida), Colegico Medico Arequipa, Fundacion Paz-Peru, Hospital Regional Cuzco, Hospital Regional Tacna, Instituto de Neurociencias, Lima
? Renovating the neonatology department, operation rooms and recovery room of the Goyenche Hospital;
? Organising symposiums,
