For thirty years Mi Escuelita has excelled at our mission of helping Dallas area at-risk children of all cultures prepare for a successful school experience by teaching them English and developing their early learning skills. Our award winning model results in low income, at-risk children entering first grade with a higher than average vocabulary and 90% of them transition into regular English speaking classes. They begin their public school education with a 3,500 word oral vocabulary, a vocabulary greater than the average 2,800 word vocabulary of a native English-speaking five year old. Our early efforts with a child increase their likelihood of success in school and reduce the chances that they will dropout before graduating.
Our current enrollment at our seven local centers is 500 children with the majority of these children coming from low income families. Families are assessed on a sliding scale and pay up to 42% of their child’s tuition. On the average one-third of our families assess at an income level that qualifies them for assistance with 100% of their tuition.
A child’s ability to succeed in school is tied directly to their language skills and their skills in learning are developed at a very early age. Mi Escuelita is designed to help at-risk children ages 2 ½ through 5 years old excel and begin their educational journey with an advantage. Our efforts allow them to begin their education with a routine of study habits, a love of learning and already performing in the top 30% of their class. These children have already conquered the number one reason given by Hispanic children for dropping out of school – language difficulties.
